Mercy Health is proud to announce our collaboration with Michigan Medicine, the academic medical center of the University of Michigan, to improve heart care for patients in West Michigan. This unique relationship enhances patient care through access to innovative clinical care that includes the latest research and clinical trials.
Cardiothoracic surgeons, Richard Downey, M.D. and Nabeel El-amir, M.D., medical staff members at Mercy Health, have been appointed to the faculty of the Department of Cardiac Surgery at the University of Michigan. With over 47 years of combined experience, these expert surgeons now have the ability to collaborate and consult with Michigan Medicine’s nationally-ranked heart team. The two will continue to perform heart surgery services in Muskegon.
Mercy Health, a leader in cardiovascular medicine in West Michigan, performs more than 350 cardiac surgeries annually, and offers a continuum of cardiovascular services including coronary artery bypasses, aortic/mitral valve repair and replacement, coronary angioplasties and stenting, cardiac pacing and defibrillator implantations, thrombolytic therapy for acute heart attacks and post-procedure cardiac rehabilitation.
The Mercy Health cardiovascular team includes a comprehensive team of cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, anesthesiologists, specialized registered nurses and registered technicians who provide seamless care for west Michigan patients.
