Preventing Your Aorta from Rupturing

At Mercy Health, our dedicated vascular surgeons repair thoracic and abdominal aortic aneurysms using minimally invasive or endovascular surgery, which results in less time spent in the hospital. Last year, our vascular surgeons produced a zero 30-day rate for mortality, paraplegia and dialysis-dependent renal failure after repair of aortic aneurysms.

What is Aortic Aneurysm Repair?

Aortic aneurysm repair is a procedure to prevent an aneurysm in your aorta from rupturing. The largest artery in the body, the aorta supplies blood to major organs and almost always proves fatal if ruptured. Aneurysms can occur anywhere from the chest (thoracic) to the belly (abdominal).

Your physician will work with you to determine the best method for treating your aneurysm. Often the primary course of action is to monitor its growth and provide you with the resources for long-term management. If repair is necessary and the risk of rupture becomes too great, treatment options will be explored.
